How many pints of beer should a pitcher pour?

Assuming standard sized American bar pitcher, how many ounces or pints of beer does it hold? 5 pints to a pitcher? A pint is larger than a 12 oz can/bottle right?

Sometimes it pays to do the math when comparing prices at a bar.|||The standard bar pitcher is 64 ounces, which would give you 4 pints of beer, but this is not always the standard. Some bars have gone with a 60 oz, down to a 48 oz pitcher, yet it still looks like a full standard pitcher. Ask the bartender what size pitchers they use to determine which would be the better deal.|||4 or 5|||These are the capacities of barware (filled to the ''brim'').

A standard ''shot'' is 1 1/2 ounces, this one holds 1/2 that (7/8 of an ounce).

You complain, so the barmaid fills one of these babies. You still get cheated (1 ounce).

''Hourglass Pint''. Not quite, only holds 15 ounces at the brim (a pint is 16 ounces).

''Large Mug'', it's all glass. Holds 12 ounces.

And the pitcher, some places sell it as a half gallon, not a chance. All of these hold 60 ounces. That's 5 12 ounce beers, 1 short of a six pack.

It prevent the oxygen from getting at it and changing the taste.|||A pint is 16 ounces. But you don't usually get a full pint in a bar. With the head, you'll get about 14.5 ounces.

My experience is that a pitcher holds about 4 3/4 12 ounce glasses, which would be about 3,6 pints.
